Welcome to Polaroids | Poetry, a Substack where I share Polaroids I take and Poetry I make.
WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?
My name’s Abby! I’m a lifelong Toledoan masquerading as a 4th year Brooklynite, working in the “Customer Service of the Film Industry.”
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?
It’s a Substack about two things: Polaroids and Poetry.
POLAROIDS: Thanks to the wonderful, electric, inspiring Jesse Graham, after a several year break, I got back into taking Polaroids. My photo work consists of two subjects: candids of people living their best lives, and empty landscapes.
POETRY: Thanks to the supportive, eclectic, and tight knit community of Writers Under the Influence (specifically Becka Dots and Nicole Graney I), I’ve inspired to explore my poetry and prose for the first time since college (I think that was 5 years ago? Egad.)
I’ve been trying to figure out a way to self-publish my work for a while now, and was inspired by the work of Nicole (It’ll be Nice to Meet You Tomorrow) and another WUTI member/friend Erika Lindquist (Emails from Grams) to begin my own Substack. There’s a lot of Polaroids just sitting in my room, and #angstypoems sitting in my notes app. Finally figured out how to put them out there!
2023 is the #YearOfYes where I’m just going for everything and anything that feeds the soul. And we all should. I firmly believe in living life to the fullest, as cliché as it sounds.
Now to the main event: Here’s a quick one (that you can also find on my Instagram):
There’s a certain type of nobility in self-preservation. No negotiation: want me fully or go. Maybe you’ll never truly know me. Maybe you don’t deserve to.
I’ll leave you with a song I’ve had on repeat this week:
“The world don’t revolve ‘round you / so don’t you revolve around someone else.”
Your assignment for this week is to figure out one thing that could change your life for the better!
