I always love the Spring “re-introduction” to nature. Driving down the Sprain Brook Parkway and being like “oh yeah, that’s what tree look like.” Seeing my Brooklyn block slowly explode with color. And then, if you’re as lucky as I was this past May, you get to experience Spring in another portion of the country.
At the beginning of May, I participated in Open Book’s Open Sesame Market and Performance in Tacoma, WA. It was a beautiful day filled with art and literature, and I was so honored to be able to read some of my work across the country!
Later, a few of us took a hike and this poem occurred to me. Enjoy!
Reclamation
Like explorers in a new land,
we walk gingerly, without a word.
The holiness, the decadence,
the Unknown silences us.
I am overwhelmed taking it all in;
Let the branches wrap around my limbs. Let leaves permeate my pores. I'll inhale curling out ferns, let them branch out in my lungs
Ivy, follow the worn folds of my grey matter. Moss cover me as my bones petrify.
Reclaim me world, I don't care if it's not my time. Make me something beautiful. Make me something unknowable.
This week’s song is the dreamy opening track to Aly & AJ’s most recent album With Love From. Almost makes you believe in love again.
For this week’s assignment, get out in nature and write down your thoughts!
As always, thanks for reading, thanks for subscribing.
LOVE THIS SO MUCH
